Founded in Boulder, Colorado in 1974 by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Naropa University is a private, nonprofit, Buddhist-inspired liberal arts institution and leader in contemplative education. This approach to learning and teaching is inspired by Trunpga Rinpoche’s vision to create a university that combines Eastern contemplative studies with traditional Western scholastic and artistic disciplines. Contemplative education integrates traditional academics with experiential learning and mindfulness practice, allowing students to engage more deeply with their studies, develop critical thinking, and apply their learning through community engagement.
Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Naropa University offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts, psychology, education, environmental leadership, religious studies, and more.
