In Memoriam

Carol Crutchlow, former adjunct faculty in Naropa University’s Theater Studies department, died March 14, 2018.

Famous among the Naropa community for her wonderful improvisational acting course, “Actor’s Journey, Fool’s Caper,” Carol was always a passionate advocate for the arts, especially comedy in which she excelled. My time at Naropa was much enriched by the two shows we created and performed, “Beckett, Crutchlow and Worley” and “After George and Gracie” and also scenes from “The Madwoman of Chaillot” with friend Maggie Donaghy.

We used to giggle as we warmed up that soon we’d be needing to make shows we could perform from our wheelchairs. Although we approached performing from very different angles, we always knew when we’d found the right note. We’d say that it gave us the shivers.

I will miss you, Carol, your laugh, your imperial mode, your sweetness and patience, your pious irreverence and strong opinions. May your journey be easy and may you swiftly return for the benefit and enrichment of us all.

Carol Crutchlow
