The Profundity of Culture & Context: Tibetan Buddhist Meditation & Modernity

This talk explores a central challenge in contemplative sciences: the roles of so-called “contexts” in contemplation and the possibility of consilience between the humanities and sciences in contemplative research.  It will focus on a specific contemplative tradition, namely Tibetan Buddhist practices, to address this in a deeply contextual manner.

Dr. David F. Germano is an American Tibetologist and Professor of Tibetan and Buddhist Studies at the University of Virginia, the largest Tibetan Studies program in the Americas, where he has taught and researched since 1992.

This event is a part of the Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche Lecture Series – a joint lecture series between Colorado Univerity and Naropa – named in honor Naropa’s founder. The lectures kicked off in 2013 and are free and open to the public, hosted on alternating years by Naropa and CU Boulder.

Sponsored by the University of Colorado Boulder Department of Religious Studies in conjunction with Naropa University.
